【イベント報告/Event Report】スカイプ講演＆交流会「世界の人権活動家と語り合おう！」Campaigning for LGBTI Rights in Ukraine - One Activist's Story

5月25日(土)、ウクライナの人権活動家、ヴィタリナ・コヴァルさんとスカイプで中継し、講演会＆交流会を開催しました。講演会には20名の方が参加され、活発な意見交換がなされました。

Last weekend, we hosted a talk on LGBTI rights in Ukraine, with activist and Amnesty supporter Vitalina Koval joining us via video link live from Kiev.

ヴィタリナさんは、彼女の生まれ故郷ウージュホロドで、2016年からLGBTI（レズビアン、ゲイ、バイセクシュアル、トランスジェンダー、インターセックス）の人たちの権利のために活動を行っています。LGBTIの人たちが安全な環境で話し合うことができ、相互サポートを受けられるLGBTIコミュニティセンターの設立にも携わりました。

ヴィタリナさんは、ウクライナでLGBTIの人たちが直面している困難や、彼女自身が極右グループに襲撃された事件のことなど、活動家としてのこれまでの経験を語ってくださいました。また、日本に住む私たちが、ウクライナの人権のためにできることについても話されました。

2018年3月8日、28歳のヴィタリナさんは、国際女性デーに合わせて、女性とLGBTIの人たちの権利のためのデモに参加していました。そしてデモの直後、数人の極右グループに襲われます。赤いペンキをかけられ、ヴィタリナさんは両目に炎症を起こしてしまったそうです。襲撃者らは逮捕されましたが、すぐに釈放されました。

参加者からの「なぜウクライナでLGBTIの権利のために活動するのが危険なのか」という質問に対し、ヴィタリナさんは「極右グループによるLGBTIの人たちへの差別や暴力を、ウクライナ警察は看過し、加担することもある」と回答、参加者の多くが衝撃を受けました。

2019年もヴィタリナさんは臆することなく国際女性デーのデモに参加、今回は警察に保護され、何事もなく終了しました。

今年のデモは無事に終了しましたが、ウクライナでは、LGBTIの多くの人たちは、相変わらずいわれのない暴力や差別に直面しています。

イベントの最後に参加者全員で、LGBTIの人たちの権利を守るよう、ウクライナの政府に手紙を書きました。

LGBTIの人たちやその権利のために活動する人たちが、暴力や差別にあっているのはウクライナだけではありません。ロシア南部のチェチェンでは、当局による弾圧が起きています。

Vitalina has been campaigning for equal rights for LGBTI people and women in her hometown of Uzhgorod since 2016. She helped establish an LGBTI community center which provides a safe space for meetings, and offers peer to peer support for LGBTI people.

Vitalina talked on the struggles LGBTI people in Ukraine face and how we living in Japan can all help to protect their rights. Vitalina was also kind enough to share with us her personal experiences being an LGBTI activist, such as when she was violently attacked by members of a far right group.

During the 2018 International Women's Day (IWD) march in the Ukrainian city of Uzhgorod, members of a right-wing group attacked participants and doused them in red paint. Vitalina, one of the event organizers, was among them. She sustained chemical burns to both her eyes. The attackers were arrested, but later released.

Participants of the event were able to ask Vitalina questions and learn more about why it is dangerous to speak up for LGBTI rights in Ukraine. Many were shocked when they heard about violence by far right groups towards homosexuals and transgender and the complicity of the police in Ukraine with the attackers, as it happened to Vitalina.

While Ukraine heading in the right direction with the Women's March in Uzhgorod was well protected by the police, many LGBTI people in Ukraine still face hate-crimes, which are not investigated. To change this, participants of the event wrote letters to the government if Ukraine.
